From sunshine yellow to cerise pink, Gerbera is a simple statement of happiness. The combination of bright colors and well- defined petals mean these Transvaal daisies look as sensational in arrangement as they do accompanied only by a little bear grass. Rich in the chemical compound coumarin, Gerbera have a sweet scent reminiscent of newly mown lawns.

Gerbera is a genus of ornamental plants from the sunflower family. It was named in honor of the German botanist and naturalist Traugott Gerber. It has approximately 30 pieces in the wild, extending to South America, Africa and Tropical Asia. Gerbera is also commonly known as the African daisy.

Gerbera species bear a large capitulum with striking, two- lipped ray florets in yellow, orange, white, pink or red colors. The capitulum, which has the appearance of a single flower, is actually composed of hundreds of individual flowers. The morphology of the flowers varies depending on their position in the capitulum. The flower head can be as small as 7cm in diameter or up to 12cm.

Gerbera is very popular and widely used as a decorative garden plant or as cut flowers. The domesticated cultivars are mostly a result of a cross between Gerbera jamesonii and another South African species Gerbera viridifolia. The cross is known as Gerbera hybrid. Thousands of cultivars exist. They vary greatly in shape and size. Colors include white, yellow, red, orange, purple, cream and pink. The centre of the flower is sometimes black. Often the same flower can be petals of several different colors. It has underground stem, branching not only to fast, leaves and flowers grow from stems, leaves marginally above the ground an angel of 14-45 degrees, leaf shape changes in plant growth( from oblong to oblong egg-shaped) leaves 15-25cm long, wide 5-8cm, feather-shaped, shallow or deep lobe split (depending on each variet), the dorsal leaves velvet coats.

Flower’s age: 15-20 days.
